We believe every South African child can love Mathematics.
NHUSTA is an EdTech company building the products, content, and community programmes that make that belief a reality one learner, one classroom, one family at a time.
Mathematics confidence for every learner.
NHUSTA exists to close the Mathematics confidence gap in South Africa. We believe that every child regardless of background, language, or school has the capacity to think mathematically. Our job is to build the tools, content, and experiences that unlock that capacity.
We do this through two products, a creative studio, a growing library of free resources, and a network of community partnerships. Everything we build is rooted in the same conviction: Mathematics is already in the world around every learner. Our job is to help them see it.
Six values that drive everything.
Confidence first
We build mathematical confidence before we build mathematical skill. A learner who believes they can do Mathematics will always outperform a learner who doesn't regardless of raw ability.
Culturally rooted
Mathematics is not culturally neutral. We embed every product and resource in South African lived experience because learners learn best when they see themselves in the material.
Evidence-driven
We build on research and continuously measure our impact. We are not interested in what feels good we are interested in what works.
Accessible by design
Every product we build is designed to work in under-resourced environments low-bandwidth, low-device, low-infrastructure. Accessibility is not an afterthought.
Community-centred
Learning does not happen in isolation. We design for the whole ecosystem learners, teachers, parents, and communities because that is where lasting change happens.
Joyful
Mathematics should be joyful. We refuse to accept the idea that rigour and delight are in tension. The best Mathematics learning is both.
Born from a conviction.
NHUSTA was founded on a simple but radical conviction: that the Mathematics crisis in South Africa is not a crisis of ability it is a crisis of confidence, culture, and access. Too many South African learners arrive at secondary school believing they cannot do Mathematics. That belief is not innate. It is learned. And it can be unlearned.
We started with a board game a physical, tactile, culturally rooted experience that could travel into any home, any classroom, any community. From there, we built a digital companion, a creative studio, a library of free resources, and a growing network of community partnerships.
We are still early. But the evidence is already clear: when learners see Mathematics in the world around them, when they play with it, when they feel confident enough to try they learn.
Built by people who care deeply.
NHUSTA is built by a team of educators, technologists, animators, researchers, and community builders united by a shared conviction that Mathematics education in South Africa can be transformed.
