NHUSTA Studio

Where Mathematics becomes story.

NHUSTA Studio creates the stories, songs, animations, and classroom resources that bring the NHUSTA learning philosophy to life  in every language, for every learner.

NHUSTA Studio creative team at work

Content that teaches without feeling like teaching.

NHUSTA Studio is the creative engine behind the NHUSTA ecosystem. We produce original stories, songs, 2D and 3D animations, and classroom resources  all rooted in the same philosophy that drives our products: Mathematics is already in the world around every learner.

Every piece of Studio content is designed to build mathematical thinking through narrative, music, and visual storytelling  not through instruction.

What we make

Six forms of learning content.

Stories

Original short stories set in South African communities  each one embedding a mathematical concept in a narrative that learners recognise and love.

Stories are available in multiple South African languages and are designed for read-aloud, independent reading, and classroom discussion.

Songs

Original Mathematics songs that embed number sense, pattern, and spatial reasoning in rhythm, melody, and movement.

Songs are designed for classroom use with teacher guides, lyric sheets, and movement activities included.

2D Animation

Beautifully crafted 2D animated shorts that bring NHUSTA characters and stories to life  designed for classroom screens and home viewing.

Each animated short is paired with a classroom activity guide and a parent discussion guide.

3D Animation

Immersive 3D animated experiences that place learners inside mathematical worlds exploring concepts through visual wonder.

3D content is optimised for classroom projectors, tablets, and future AR/VR experiences.

YouTube Content

A growing library of free YouTube content episodes, shorts, behind the scenes, and teacher explainers  reaching learners beyond the classroom.

NHUSTA's YouTube channel is designed to be a free, accessible Mathematics learning resource for every South African learner with internet access.

Classroom Resources

Printable and digital classroom resources  activity sheets, discussion guides, teacher notes, and assessment tools  all aligned to Studio content.

Every resource is curriculum-aligned, teacher-tested, and designed to work in under-resourced classroom environments.

How we make it

The Studio process.

1

Concept

Every piece of content begins with a mathematical concept and a cultural context  finding the story that lives at the intersection of the two.

2

Community

We work with South African communities, educators, and learners to ensure every story, character, and context is authentic and resonant.

3

Create

Our team of writers, animators, musicians, and educators bring the concept to life  with rigorous attention to both creative quality and pedagogical integrity.

4

Classroom test

Every piece of content is tested in real classrooms before release  refined based on learner and teacher feedback.

5

Release

Content is released across all NHUSTA channels  the Digital Companion, YouTube, the Libraries, and partner platforms.

Meet the characters

Stories need heroes.

NHUSTA Studio has developed a cast of original South African characters each one representing a different learner archetype, a different community, and a different relationship with Mathematics. Together, they carry the NHUSTA story into every home and classroom.

For teachers

Every piece of content comes with a teacher guide.

NHUSTA Studio does not produce content in isolation. Every story, song, animation, and video is accompanied by a teacher guide  with curriculum alignment notes, discussion questions, extension activities, and assessment suggestions.
