South Africa faces a Mathematics crisis. Millions of learners leave school without the foundational Mathematics skills they need to access higher education, employment, and economic opportunity. The NHUSTA Foundation exists to change that not through charity, but through high-quality, culturally relevant, evidence-based Mathematics enrichment that meets learners where they are.

Community school partnerships
We partner with under-resourced public schools to deliver the full NHUSTA programme weekly facilitator visits, board games, digital platform access, and progress tracking at no cost to the school.
Community library outreach
We work with public libraries and community centres to create Mathematics learning spaces outside the classroom providing board games, digital access points, and facilitator-led sessions for learners in the community.
Research and evidence
We invest in rigorous research to understand what works in Mathematics education for South African learners. Our findings are published openly and shared with educators, policymakers, and the broader education sector.
Educator development
We provide professional development resources, workshops, and collaborative learning opportunities for Mathematics teachers in partner schools building long-term capacity in the communities we serve.

Dedicated Mathematics learning spaces in public libraries, equipped with NHUSTA board games, digital access, and weekly facilitator sessions for out-of-school learners.
Holiday Mathematics camps
Intensive Mathematics enrichment camps during school holidays combining board game sessions, digital learning, storytelling, and team challenges for learners from partner communities.
Teacher support circles
Peer learning communities for Mathematics teachers in Foundation partner schools monthly collaborative sessions focused on practical classroom strategies and learner support.
Research partnerships
Collaborative research with South African universities and international education research institutions generating evidence on what works in Mathematics education for our learners.
Open resource library
Free, openly licensed Mathematics resources worksheets, lesson plans, and facilitator guides available to any South African teacher or community organisation.
